Do I Need A New Roof? Signs It May Be Time for a New Roof

The day you wake up to rain pouring through the roof, is the day that you realize it’s probably time for a new roof!

Hopefully you’ve never had this unfortunate experience, and thankfully, there are other ways to determine needing a new roof -before it becomes an emergency. Here are four signs that it’s time for a new roof…

  • An Older Roof A typical shingle roof will last between 15 and 30 years. The length of time your roof will last depends largely on the materials used, and the installation process. If the roof you have was installed over another layer, and if it is older than 20 years, it’s very likely that you will need a new roof.
  • Curling or Buckling Shingles Shingles that curl at the ends or buckle are sure signs that your roof may be in need of replacement. If you notice the shingles are curling, and starting to lose granules, it could mean that it’s time for a new roof.
  • Missing Shingles Missing shingles can indicate that a roof needs to be replaced, or can also be the result of a strong storm. Missing shingles should be inspected and replaced as quickly as possible to prevent water damage and rot.
  • Water Damage If you are seeing water spots on your ceiling, this is caused from a leaky roof. Chances are your roof will need to be replaced if you are seeing spots as this indicates worn spots in your roof that are causing water damage. It’s important to address all water damage issues as soon as possible, to prevent water damage from causing extensive and costly damage.
